Speaking of the set list, thanks for all the requests that were filled out.  Taking requests really gives us a gauge for what sort of music people want to dance to.  However, one request sheet said, “I guess you’re taking requests, but not actually playing them.”  If we played every request we got, we’d be up DJing far past all our bedtimes.  Every song we play isn’t a request, and there’s no way to play them all.  Keep the requests coming, but don’t get super upset if we don’t play your song.

The weekend of October 9th will be an exciting one in the District, as queers from all over God’s creation will descend upon the city for Cleve Jones’ National Equality March. And TNG is doing its part to make it just a little more exciting. We will be holding Homo/Sonic, our flagship alternaqueer dance party, at the Black Cat on Sunday, October 11. The coed, trans-inclusive, straight-friendly event will feature its usual mix of alternative, indie, electro, retro, pop, glam, etc. music by DJs Zack and Michael.

But there’s more! First Ladies DJ Collective member DJ Junebullet (nee’ Maegan Wood) will be doing two guest DJ sets as well. Junebullet is a great DJ who regularly DJs at Phase 1 party HottBoxx. It’d be great for you to come out and celebrate with all of us.

As I mentioned before, I will be visiting the west coast next week. Though my offer to meet with anyone who is interested in writing for TNG stands, I have even more exciting news:Homo/Sonic, TNG’s co-ed, trans-inclusive, straight-friendly dance party will be having its West Coast debut on Wednesday, September 16, at The Chapel Bar.

Located at 1600 Melrose Avenue and starting at 9 pm, the party will be a good chance to dance to awesome indie, electro and retro music. It will also let you meet other queer folks in the area who have the same interests as you and who despise the musical offerings at most mainstream gay clubs. And you can buy me shots while I’m DJing! And I’ll take them! What more could you want?

Thanks to everyone who came out to Homo/Sonic this past Saturday. We had a great turn-out and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Sorry to anyone who submitted a request online or in person that didn’t get honored. We try our best, but we’re only human.

We have a few other interesting events in the coming month, including a film screening of the Pansy Division documentary that will feature a live set from PD Front-man John Ginoli. We’re also hosting a Peaches “I Feel Cream” record release party at the end of the month. Stay tuned for more details about both.

Two minor miracles happened in the District on Saturday: First, the coinciding bookings of Homo/Sonic and MixTaint provided DC’s alterna-crowd the ability to party hop. Secondly, a band actually roused the Black Cat’s audience to dance. My Dear Disco, the queer-fronted 7 piece-band that drove all the way from Ann Arbor to play at Homo/Sonic, moved their fans to never-before-seen heights of body motion with their mixture of covers (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun) and original songs. They were great.

The following dance party was pretty fun too. Michael and I began to DJ shortly after 11:30 and went strong until after 2. Thanks again to everyone for coming out. Though it seems like we’re still scrubbing lipstick off the shot glasses of our last Homo/Sonic dance party , we are here to remind you that our next one is coming up this Saturday, Feb. 21st at the mainstage of the Black Cat.

Even more excitingly, we have booked a band to play the early portion. They are called My Dear Disco, they hail from Ann Arbor and their lead singer is a super cute queer girl. MDD has the ability to whip crowds into a teeming, foaming frenzy so we hope you will come out to see them.

Like a couple having sex in the cobalt bathroom, we here at TNG don’t waste any time in getting down to business. Though the last Homo/Sonic dance party is barely cold, we are proud to tell you that our next one is coming up on Saturday, Feb. 21st at the mainstage of the Black Cat.

Even more excitingly, we have booked a band to play the early portion. They are called My Dear Disco, they hail from Ann Arbor and their lead singer is a super cute queer girl. MDD has the ability to whip crowds into a teeming, foaming frenzy so we hope you will come out to see them.

I was very pleased to see such a diverse selection of the queer community in attendance. I hope everyone had a good time and felt welcomed. I will say that I was disappointed to hear that a handful of men were using the ladies room upstairs. C’mon guys, we’re not at Nation here. Be respectful. There are more bathrooms downstairs in the Red Room, too.
