Wednesday nights in Houston are almost always interesting. I’ve never really known why this is the case, but something weird always happens on Wednesdays. Take this past Wednesday for example: I went out to Guava Lamp and had a few drinks with some friends. Nothing big. Then, around 12:30am, I decided to go home. I don’t know about you, but I’m on a budget! These are tough economic times and cutbacks have become the norm. For example: I had to get rid of my Cheesecake of the Month membership. Yes, it’s that bad! So while I clip coupons and take oversize handbags to smuggle excess General Tso’s chicken out of my local Chinese buffet, I always keep an eye out for free (but massively entertaining) events. This weekend is teeming with free. From drag superstars to garbage-turned-art, you’ll have plenty to keep your mind off your overdue light bill.

This weekend’s activities have a decidedly musical twist to them, so when trying to come up with a name for this edition of the Houston Weekend Preview, Twisted Jukebox seemed appropriate. If you’re like me, your musical tastes are varied. Whenever I’m asked, “What kind of music do you like?”, my reply is usually “Classical to Pussycat Dolls” – Then queue the stares. Why is that so hard to understand though? If you decide to stick around this weekend, instead of trekking down to Galveston Pride, you’ll have plenty of options musically speaking.
