Spring has sprung in a major way, y’all, and it is gorgeous. This weekend? Fantastic, right? I don’t about you, but I put on some shorts, had a little outdoor brunch, saw the Beyonce movie and then sat around ironically drinking Arbor Mist with the girls until well past our bedtimes. (Yes, my weekend was gayer than buttsex. Don’t hate!) I certainly hope all of you have been able to take advantage of this amazing weather as well. It’s shocking what a little Vitamin D can do for one’s mood.

Howdy, boys and girls! It’s Tuesday afternoon and that means it’s time for a fresh installment of What We’re Listening To, our weekly look at the music that makes us here at TNG tick. Last week, I kind of took the reins and made it all about me, and I do hope you found it interesting and informative. I certainly had fun sharing the few fuzzy memories I still have from that weekend, but now it’s time to get back to our regularly scheduled programming. I got my crew back here with me and we’re ready to rock it out. Join us, won’t you?

Happy Tuesday, everybody! Hope all is well! I, for one, am exhausted! I spent the weekend down in Harrisonburg, VA at the 12th annual Mid-Atlantic College Radio Conference, more commonly known as MACRoCk. What’s that…?

Happy Tuesday, folks! Welcome to What We’re Listening To, TNG’s weekly rundown of the music we’re madly in love with! Before we begin, some of you may know this already, but today is Arts Advocacy Day up on Capitol Hill. Hundreds of artists, teachers and administrators from all over the country have come to D.C. to lobby Congress for additional federal funding for the arts, which personally I think is an incredibly important cause.

Happy Tuesday afternoon, everybody, and welcome once again to What We’re Listening To! This is the place where all of us here at TNG let you in on the music that’s making us swoon. You’ll have to forgive me today, I’m still a little high from the Morrissey concert last Sunday in Philly. There’s been a lot of Morrissey talk around TNG lately, and I know I put in a brief two cents last week with my favorable review of Years of Refusal, but I don’t think I adequately described my feelings about him. Unlike my friend TNG Zack, I am straight-up in love with Morrissey. And I’d never seen him live! So needless to say, I had been looking forward to the show for a very long time, and let me tell you the man did not disappoint. Even though he seemed to be having some sort of throat issue towards the end, and that, sadly, meant only a one-song encore, it was still an energetic, highly theatrical and jaw-droppingly sexy performance. By the end of the show, there were all these horny boys rushing the stage, just trying to touch him for one brief, glorious second, only to get literally thrown back into the crowd by his legion of bodyguards. I’m not going to lie, had I been closer I may have tried the same thing. Maybe I could have slipped him my number. Who knows? (Though the whole scene was a little Springer for my taste…) I know it probably wouldn’t work out; I hate L.A. and and excessive, real-time whining, but he’s just so clever, and has such a beautiful voice, and still looks damn good with his shirt off. A boy can dream, right? But enough about me! This is about you finding your potential new musical god. Therefore, for your consideration, on the menu this week we’ve got: Johnny Flynn, David Byrne & Brian Eno, Royksopp featuring Robyn, The Format, Sade, Bajofondo, Joni Mitchell, Otis Redding and Quiet Village. Our reviews, plus our weekly mixtape await…

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everybody!!!

OK, remember how I loathe each and every little thing about Valentine’s Day? Well, that’s how much I love St. Patrick’s Day! Let’s all wear green and get fucked up, because a dude got rid of some snakes? Now, that’s a holiday I can get behind. (Snakes suck! Celebrate it!) Plus, not many people know this, seeing as how I’m black and all, but my great-grandfather was Irish. It’s true! According to family lore, he was on holiday in Barbados and fell in love with my great-grandmother, so he stuck around and they got married and made babies. So, as you can see, I come by my unfortunate cultural stereotypes honestly. And speaking of which, what did I do with that bottle of Jameson…? While I rummage through my desk for that, please enjoy this week’s installment of What We’re Listening To, TNG’s weekly rundown of the music we love. On the menu this week, we’ve got: Clout, Fol Chen, Bourgeois Tagg, Neko Case, White Lies, Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, Roisin Murphy, Air, Marissa Nadler, and my bottomless, unwavering love for Morrissey. All our reviews, plus the mixtape, await you below the fold.
