Well, Summer is finally here in So Cal and you know what that means: seek refuge indoors, come outside at 3 pm and party all night long in 80 degree summer coolness. Some great things are going on this weekend. The 3rd annual College Battle of the Bands brought to you by Chegg makes an appearance at the Echo. Silver Lake’s last Saturday flea market, Art and Crafts Vintage and food truck block party invades Micheltorena Middle School. And for the culture vulture, check out the Borderlandia exhibits showcasing the typography between the Mexican American Border. Have a great Summer Weekend!

All right LA weekenders, this week its about mixed art and new styles. This week is heavier on the museum side than compared to other weekend previews but they all coincided fantastically to not only offer art but music, science, details, oceans, curves and color. Art on the Street at the MOCA this weekend showcases the first exhibit where graffiti and street art is considered high art. Looks like now-a-days, graffiti artists are gaining street and art credibility as Banksy and Fab 5 Freddy are now synonymous with contemporary art. All the Sordid Little Details at the WWA gallery shows a unique exhibit showcasing the talents of 6 artists and their detailed works of art. From color, brush strokes and composition, everything is painstakingly remarkable. And lastly, the Hyperbolic exhibit at the Williamson Gallery meshes art with the natural world in some pretty interesting ways. Have a great Weekend…. oh and Happy Father’s Day. Bring Dad along for this weekend’s adventures. Have a great Weekend!

This weekend is dedicated to one of my favorite directors of all time: Tim Burton. The phantasmagoric and slightly peculiar way he directs his films leaves every imaginative audience member to want more. His exhibit, which kicked off last weekend at the LACMA, will make the LA fans go bonkers as it did when the exhibit was at the MOMA in New York City. Having been to exhibit at the MOMA and LACMA, trust me. If you are even a remote Tim Burton follower, this exhibit will rock your socks off. There are also other great events going on the the LA are as well. SheRaw mixes it up once again with their queerest DIY dance party in Long Beach and a theater ensemble at the Redcat near the Disney Opera House. Have a great weekend!
