Unlike spring cleaning and snow shoveling, digging out fall clothing is a seasonal chore that I actually enjoy. Sure, there’s always the fear that moth repellent chemicals will permanently damage my nerve endings in the process or that my boxes of warm clothes have been infested by any number of pests over the summer months (my bedroom’s in a basement, it happens!). But isn’t sweater weather just great nonetheless?

During my 9-5 gig this week, someone asked me if it was possible to drive a car from Texas to Massachusetts (mind you, this person lived in Houston not on Mars) and another person sob-cried during the entirety of our 20 minute conversation. Now that we’ve weathered an earthquake, Irene, and the annual influx of college co-eds into the city, it’s time to kick back and relax over the long weekend. Blame it on spaced-out dreams of summer weather or fried brains from finals, but we missed a big event last week, The Boston LGBT Film Festival! But fret not, it runs through Sunday and tickets are still available. Get the schedule and movie details here. And even if you’re not a queer cinema aficionado there are plenty of other options for this weekend, including new parties, shows and some of the same great events around the city. • Unless this is your first time around TNG Boston, you don’t need me to tell you that Queeraoke at Midway Cafe, G.T.L. at the Harvard Square Tommy Doyle’s and Karaoke Thursday at Machine are Boston’s go to Thursday party options. Check event websites for details.

• Venus Room is DykeNight and UltraBoston’s brand new weekly party for women, taking place every Friday at FELT in Downtown Crossing. Details: FELT Nightclub. 533 Washington Street, Boston. 10pm-2am. $10, 21+

• Queers, bears, and indie music fans alike will feel right at home at Fur & Gold tonight. DJ Brent Covington and DJ Taffy spin (they’ll also be giving away copies of Yelle‘s new album, Safari Disco Club!) Details: The Alley Bar. 14 Pi Alley, Boston. 10pm-2am. 21+. FREE.

First things first, this is your reminder that Mother’s Day is on Sunday. Whether your mom politely refuses to acknowledge your sexuality or (alternatively) enjoys discussing episodes of The Real L Word in far too much detail, chances are she deserves a shout out this weekend. I’m not your mom, but if I were I’d at least like a phone call or chocolate or whatever quirky original gift you can make, you crafty homo. And while I’m at it, I’m also going to remind you to fit some of these extracurricular events into your calendar and to stop teasing your brother…

• Guerrilla Queer Bar hits up Fenway tonight, one of the crew’s favorite neighborhoods. Venue details will be posted on the group’s website by Thursday. Arrive early to avoid the line! Details: TBA. Fenway. 9pm. 21+.

• Come watch local gay rugby team, The Boston Ironsides, take on Old Gold today at Moakley Field. Details: Moakley Field. 600 William J. Day Blvd., South Boston. 1pm.

• Uh Huh Her plays Brighton Music Hall tonight with Diamonds Under Fire. Do your best to avoid shouting “ALICE!!!” to Leisha Hailey all night. That probably gets old fast. Details: Brighton Music Hall. 158 Brighton Ave., Allston. 9pm. $17+.

• Shuttavac’s twice-monthly party Kiss N’ Bang goes country this weekend. Judging by the event promo, we’re thinking it will (thankfully) be more Coyote Ugly than Keith Urban. Details: RCC. 44 Mezzeo Drive, Randolph. 9pm-2am. $5 before 10:30pm, $8 after. 21+.

• Art school dropouts and day drinkers alike are invited to Dr. Sketchy’s (Anti-Art School Burlesque) Life Drawing Session in Allston today. Details: Great Scott. 1222 Commonwealth Ave., Allston. 2:30pm. 18+.

Finals season is here (for you college kiddos) and summer concert events are just around the corner so it’s only appropriate that this weekend’s events are all about nerding it up or rocking out. Take a study break and and head out to some of these fine events this weekend…

• Can you imagine what Boston and Cambridge would be like without the smattering of smarty-pants co-eds from Harvard, MIT, and our other fine local universities? Neither can ImprovBoston. • GirlSpot Bar hits up a straight venue in another installment of their monthly guerrilla-esque(capades) around Boston tonight.
