Six in September

If you’re a reader on TNG, chances are that you know what it is like to grow up gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, or any other place on the spectrums of sexual orientation and gender identity. So when you or I hear about kids being bullied because of their sexual orientation or gender expression we tend to grimace and nod our heads – a modest acknowledgment of what is becoming an unwelcome right of passage into adulthood for this community.

Tegan and Sara played Warner Theater last Wednesday and nearly brought the house down. Or rather, the crowd nearly brought it down for them. Like the first rain after a long drought, DC has clearly been deficient in the recommended dosage of T&S. The crowd was incredibly diverse, with folks of all ages and walks of life in attendance. Looking around at the dads and kids and 20 and 30-somethings and couples reminded me of how powerful music, and Tegan and Sara in particular, can be at humanizing those who listen.
