About Bryan Garcia

Staff Writer

A post-punk non-profit computer wench during the day, I'll be dropping by The New Gay from time to time to give you some on-the-spot reporting in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. I will also attempt to teach each and every one of you how to drink Fernet one shot (with ginger ale back) at a time.

Mission United Party & *More* Ticket Giveaways!

You know, I’m sure you get tired of me prattling on and on about how great Hard French is, but sometimes you can never get too much of a good thing. And sometimes a good thing can become an even awesomer thing when it all goes to a great cause. Hard French has always supported the community by fundraising through its ticket sales, and this weekend is no exception. This Friday, Hard French joins forces with Public Works and Mission United for an all-night celebration of San Francisco’s famed hipster-than-thou neighborhood. But it’s not all about plimsolls and skinny jeans. The proceeds from the Mission United party will benefit local nonprofit organizations like SFSmiles, Homeless Prenatal Program, and Dolores Street Community Services.

Daytime Realness Party Debut

Next Sunday, July 17, the folks who brought you Hard French (DJ Carnita) and Viennetta Discotheque (DJ Stanley Frank, a.k.a. Chilidog) are unveiling a new party that I’m willing to predict– based on the performers lined up for the event– will become a new cult fave for the underground disco set. The press release speaks for itself:

RAW Presents Honey Soundsystem

Hey, y’all, it’s Bryan, TNG’s San Francisco events editor. I’m moonlighting on the DC scene to announce the debut of San Francisco’s Honey Soundsystem DJs in the nation’s capital city. On Saturday, June 4, San Francisco-based Honey DJs Ken Vulsion and Jacob Sperber will be the guest discaires at RAW, DC’s self-described “sleazy electro-disco party.” Honey Soundsystem has been spinning the mirrored ball in San Francisco’s underground club scene since 2006, and for the last couple of years, has been host to one of the best weekly dance parties in the city. Their DJ collective has a large local following, collaborated with DJs around the world and helped spawn the release of a Patrick Cowley album on Catholic Records and a highly infectious dance mix tape with Butt Magazine. The June 4 RAW party will be the first time Honey Soundsystem plays the DC area. Check out the Honey Soundsystem website to learn more about their music and a sample of what you’ll be dancing to at RAW.

DJ Sergio of Go BANG!

As one of the events editors for San Francisco, I have had the opportunity to meet some fascinating and creative people who make the city so colorful. One of my favorite events to cover (and to dance and get drunk at) has been the Go BANG! party at Deco Lounge in part because it’s, well, BANGING, and also because of the unabashed passion that party co-founder, Sergio Fedasz, puts into every fourth Saturday night. It’s fun, it’s energetic, it’s sweaty and it’s banging. Sergio himself has become a fixture in the club scene from Go BANG! to his radio show on KALX, to Friday nights at Cafe Flore and through the endless collaborations with other DJs across the city. It’s no surprise that he won SF Weekly’s Readers’ Poll for Best DJ in 2010. This Saturday, Go BANG! sets to explode at the Deco Lounge, and Sergio took some time to answer a few questions for The New Gay.
