Song of the Day: Songs by Bands With Similar Names
You’d think there were enough band names to go around but it seems as if these two bands didn’t get the memo. Both Bloomington, Indiana trio Sleeping Bag and Long Beach, California band Sleeping Bags have self-titled releases this year. The shambley Sleeping Bag released their record a couple weeks ago on Joyful Noise, and it is badass. The eleven track record is streaming on their Bandcamp page and you can hear the and download the track “Slime” below. Cali’s Sleeping Bags have a release coming out September 13th. The band is made up of Princeton members, bothers Matt and Jesse Kivel (Jesse is also a member of the wonderful underrated band Kisses), as well as Abe Burns of Gentle Hands and Mark Nieto of COMBAT!. Sleeping Bags have a way different sound, they are more kraut rock and shoegaze. Take their second single “Pehr” a seven minute lyric-less drone that keeps changing with a motorik thud. Pick your favorite band, because someone is sure to change their name soon.
