Last year, after he let slip an F Bomb at a fellow rocker, The Black Lips‘ Jared Swilley cleared the air with me and sealed it with a kiss. This year, he gave us some of his time to discuss his dad Jared Swilley, an Atlanta megachurch pastor who came out to his congregation. Not because he was caught on tape, not because of any scandal, but because he wanted to make the world a more tolerant place by being honest. Jim is a hero to me for that β watch him come out and see if you feel differently βΒ and Jared is also pretty damn awesome for being so open on the subject. The worlds of religion, sexuality and indie rock rarely collide in a positive way, so its nice to see it happen here.

Just getting caught up on this whole f-bomb business. I hate the argument that “it’s normal when you use without using it specifically towards gay guys”. I love South Park, but hate that episode. The word faggot out of context for every youth in this country will be automatically connected first, with “gay”, and then with it being a generally used term. But first and foremost with “gay”. The word faggot can not be removed from that context, as great as that would be. That sort of thing takes a lot longer.
while I appreciate his openness, I don’t appreciate the argument. And I’m really sick of hearing it.
