TV: Is “Dante’s Cove” the Smut for Me?

Yup, that's Jenny Shimizu! (Courtesy ichatgay.com)
I’m asking if anyone watches Dante’s Cove because I’d like to know what I’m getting myself into. I was recently speaking with here!TV about new shows they’re working on, and they just happened to offer to send me a few DVD screeners of the show. It was a total surprise. I was more interested in their gay-centric dramas and serious LGBT-issues related programming, but they insisted.
OK OK, I couldn’t help myself! I knew what I was doing the whole time! I’m only flesh and blood! I’ve actually never seen the show, and in doing research before speaking with the here!TV exec I came across it — something that looked like a gay soft-core version of Passions. And though I pretended not to like that show in high school, I just don’t know how you get better than a show that has magic and hot guys.
So now these naughty little discs are sitting coyly by my television, practically giggling at me every time I glance toward them. Untold mystic scandals from seasons one, two, and three all beckon – but I remain wary. I’m not prudish about a blue movie or two, but instead trepidatious about being disappointed. (Plus, Reichen? Hm.)
A good piece of light smut is a very difficult thing to pull off well. It must have a plot line and dialogue, but these must be just the right level of awful — too good and you’re distracted, too abysmally terrible and you can’t even have a sense of humor about the whole thing. It must have action and character development unrelated to sexual congress, but that awkwardly and inevitably results in intercourse consistently.
Suffice it to say, I have yet to take the dive into Dante’s Cove, and am still leery at the prospect. Please advise, dear readers, for I would hate to become involved in something as distasteful as poor quality soft-core.

It’s a pretty stupid show, but not w/o it’s charms. But I never went past midway season 2 and never had regrets. Watch a few eps in season one to look at some cute nekkid boys, marvel at the incredibly bad acting and snicker at the swift tonal changes (soft core erotica to tame gothic horror to bad soap opera and rinse and repeat). It’s worth a shot, at least.
