TNG TV: Margaret Cho — The New Gay Interview

This post was submitted by Zack Rosen

So, wow. Margaret Cho. One of the higher-profile people I’ll ever have a chance to interview and one of the very few I can count as a personal hero. Margaret Cho’s greatest appeal, and the secret to her popularity, is her constant espousal that normalcy does not exist.

Whether she says it outright, or just makes it clear in her comments on non-monogamy, American racial identity or her experiences in fisting or eating pussy, her support of good ol’ fashioned promiscuity, or the fact that she sang glorious songs about both dick and pussy at her last live show: All this adds up to show that there are still people in this country who have not been silenced or vilified for speaking the truth on modern queer life. In fact, all Margaret’s truth-telling has done is make her a legend.

This interview took place on a well-appointed tour bus outside of DC’s Warner Theatre before the performance of her current tour, Cho Dependant. I found Ms. Cho to be pretty intimidating at the time of the interview, but upon viewing this again I reaffirm that she’s pretty damn awesome. I embedded “My Puss” below, which she performs, and the remaining tour dates below that.
