San Francisco Weekend Preview: Of Bears and Bangs
Event Details: San Francisco Weekend Preview: Of Bears and Bangs - :
What’s your pleasure? Choose between bears all weekend long or just one epic bang-tastic Saturday night at Go BANG!
Thursday thru Sunday: Bear Market Weekend
With Lazy Bear taking a break this year, your next best chance to take a hirsute holiday might be this weekend’s Bear Market in Guerneville, a.k.a. Russian River. Expect bear-friendly DJ stalwarts like Bob Mould, Chris Zachos, Papa Tony, Dabecy, DJ PeePlay and Matt Consola manning the decks. Hiking bears, poolside bears, bears on the river, and bears by the bonfire… Even the Seattle Eagle DJs make a star appearance on Sunday evening. So it’s not Lazy Bear, but… really, it is. A portion of the proceeds from the event go towards the Lazy Bear fund for 2011 and beyond to ensure a fur-covered crystal ball legacy for years to come. Details: The welcome parties kick off on Thursday and stretch through the weekend. Find out more information at www.beargetaway.com.
Saturday: Go BANG! In PARADISE!
If you’re staying in the city this weekend, then I’ll see you at the monthly Go BANG! party. This Saturday, Sergio brings his ab-fab club party to Paradise Lounge, also the home of the very popular Honey Soundsystem Sunday night parties. Even though the locale has changed, Go BANG! loses nothing of its edge and offers up a tasty platter of beats for the evening. On the decks for Saturday night:
- Special guest DJ Said (Fatsouls Records, We & The Music)
- Hard French DJs Carnitas and Brown Amy, Tal M. Klein, and Kimmy LeFunk
- Resident DJs Steve Fabus and Sergio
About DJ Said: “… of Fatsouls Records he has brought a soulful African brand of percussion-based deep house to a distinct slice of the underground in San Francisco. Said has spun at his Atmosfere events and many other clubs around the world alongside the likes of Francois K, Joe Claussell, Danny Krivit, Kenny Carpenter, Miguel Migs and countless others. His original productions have been released on many an influential label including Ibadan, Chez & Wave Music. His main influence is derived from Afrobeat, Highlife Jazz, Juju, and other music from his Yoruba root and numerous global music which he absorbed during his formative years. As a teenager, Said sorted after his sibling’s extraordinary musical interests and record collection. During this period he recalls hearing American Disco (one of his favorites – T-Connection’s “Saturday Night”) in addition to regional Nigerian disco acts. In 1984, Said moved from his hometown Lagos, Nigeria to England as a scholar. While in England, he gained a vast knowledge of the London club scene through direct experience and connections. Said currently heads Fatsouls Records, a San Francisco-based independent record label founded in 2007. Said currently promotes ‘We & The Music’ a monthly event with emphasis on House, Afrobeat and other Soulful Afro – Rhythms. He is excited to be able to present some of his favorite & influential disco stompers at this month’s Go BANG!”
Yeah… So come check it out. And then you can just hide in the corner until Sunday night when Honey Soundsystem revs those turntables back up. Details: Doors open at 9 PM, free before 10 PM, free before 11 PM by RSVPing at sanfrancisco.going.com/gobang and $5 afterward. At Paradise Lounge on 1501 Folsom Street and 11th Street.
