Song of the Day: Kathryn Calder, “Arrow”

This post was submitted by Rohan

Kathryn Calder of the New Pornographers gets an unfair rep. It takes big shoes to “fill in” for Neko Case, as anyone can replace Case’s brilliant vocals. Fans were relived to find out Case had not been permanently replaced, even though Calder became a full-time member. Calder now has a few of her own New Pornographers songs, but the former Immaculate Machine front woman is set to release her first full length collection under her own name. Are You My Mother? (August 10rd) finds Calder expanding her song writing palate beyond her work with Immaculate Machine and The New Pornographers. Today’s song is the second track she has released “Arrow.” The track is a sparse solo number with just Calder’s airy vocals and gloomy keyboard.

Kathryn is by far the MVP (Most Valuable Pornographer).

Was anyone at the DC show when she did “Challengers” all by herself, and then someone yelled “I Love you, Keyboard girl” and then she blushed and then AC Newman said that would be an awesome superhero name for her?

Hmm… it seems I briefly channelled Ralhp Wiggum for the telling of that story.
