Washington DC: One Trans Show: The MANgina Monologues

This post was submitted by John "Jolly" Bavoso

Event Details: One Trans Show: The MANgina Monologues - Washington DCJCC: Saturday, April 17

Just what America needed but didn’t know it wanted: a lesbian Jewish comic with a sex-change and an attitude.

Kurlander Program for Gay & Lesbian Outreach and Engagement (GLOE) presents one of the country’s most prominent trans-activists, Riki Wilchins. Wilchins takes on binary genders, identity politics, passing, political correctness and the medical establishment in an evening of humor, sketch and improvisation that leaves no rhinestone unturned and no slip showing.

Founder of the protest group Transsexual Menace and the advocacy organization GenderPAC, Wilchins is author of Queer Theory/Gender Theory, GenderQueer and Read My Lips.  Her writing and humor have also appeared in periodicals like the Village Voice, the Advocate, Curve and Social Text as well as anthologies like Pomosexuals, Women on Women and Feminist Frontiers.

Riki Wilchins’ work has been profiled in the New York Times, and TIME magazine named her one of “100 Civic Innovators for the 21st Century.” As an activist and advocate, she has taken her message of equality to venues as varied as NOW, the NEA, Creating Change, Ivy League Queers, Midwest LGBT Conference, Citi and IBM.
