Weekend Preview: Houston Weekend Preview: Bunnies Edition
Well it’s finally here: Easter Weekend. It’s always a relief when Easter finally rolls around. Why? Because I’ll no longer be able to justify the consumption of Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs. I’ve probably eaten my way through 50 of those things in the past month. Being the non-religious person that I am, I feel I must do something to join in the Easter celebration. While some people dye eggs or dress up in their Sunday best, I choose to celebrate with hyperglycemia. So, while I’d love to make an appearance at Bunnies on The Bayou 31, I’ll probably just be on an insulin drip at Ben Taub. Here’s a look at a few events in Houston this weekend that are much less likely to make you fat.
Friday
- Head on over to Boondocks and see GRRRL Parts perform a Trashed – a DJ event that takes place every 1st Friday of the month. Gab-E & Natasha Ninjason comprise the DJ duo of GRRRL Parts. These two formed in July of 2008 and have since been happily helping in keeping the Electro lovers dance scene alive and well in Houston. In this seemingly short time span, they have thrown and been a part of many Electro bumpin parties and have proudly opened for many renowned DJs. — Boondocks | 1417 Westheimer | $3-$7 | 10pm | 18+
Saturday
- Join Air Alliance Houston, formerly Galveston-Houston Association for Smog Prevention (GHASP) and Mothers for Clean Air (MfCA), as we celebrate the 2nd Annual Earth Day Houston Festival, 5K & Green Expo. Earth Day Houston once again will take place at Discovery Green on Saturday, April 3, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festivities kick off with the Earth Day Houston 5K at 8 a.m. followed by a day-long celebration with family entertainment, environmental education, the NEW Green Expo and much more. — Discovery Green | 1002 Avenida de las Americas | Free
Sunday
- The 31st Annual Bunnies on The Bayou celebration is this Sunday starting at 1pm. This annual fundraiser generates proceeds for numerous Houston-area charities. For those have not been to Bunnies before, imagine 80% of the entire un-closeted gay population in Houston walking around a small park with a beer in hand: That’s Bunnies. — Fish Plaza (hehe) | 500 Texas Ave. | $30 at the gate | 21+
- After Bunnies, head on over to Guava Lamp for more cocktails and, later, Sunday Karaoke with Toddicus. — 570 Waugh | No Cover
