Event Details: Boston Weekend Preview: The Sia, Sea Wolf and Scenesters Edition - :
This weekend’s offerings include an arts festival and a LOLcats-inspired conference, not to mention the usual parties and unusually great music (Sia and Sea Wolf are in town!). Get out and celebrate the end of a rainy April and the ever closer summer months. Here’s what you need to know…
Tonight
- Beginning tonight, the “Arts First” festival will be taking over Harvard Square. Student art shows, a dance festival, and a silent rave are just some of things going on through Sunday. Details: Harvard University, Cambridge. Most events are free in venues near Harvard Square. Check the festival website for details.
- As always, JP-friendly folks can check out Queeraoke at Midway Café and Central Square groupies have the eclectic Throwed party (18+) at Middle East.
Friday
- Traniwreck GOLD is tonight! Check out this hot mess of this drag/cabaret/anything goes show at Oberon. Details: Oberon. 2 Arrow St, Cambridge (Harvard Square). 10:30pm. $20. 21+.
- ROFLCON II takes place at MIT today. More than simple internet nerdery, the self-proclaimed “most epic internet culture conference ever assembled” dabbles in memes and viral video. (Keyboard Cat – okay, his owner/videographer- is a confirmed guest!) The bad news is that the conference is sold out. But no fear if you didn’t get tickets, the daylong event will be live-streamed on the ROFLCON II website. And if you’re into this stuff, you already spend most of time online anyway, right?
- The Great American Trailer Park Musical opens tonight, chronicling the story of a stripper named Pippi on the lam. White trash hilarity ensues. Details: BCA’s Calderwood Pavilion, 527 Tremont St., Boston. Tickets $30-50 here. Runs through May 30.
- California-based indie bands The Album Leaf and Sea Wolf play Paradise tonight. Details: Paradise Rock Club. 967 Commonwealth Ave., Boston. 8pm. Buy tickets here. 18+.
Saturday
- Soft and throaty-voiced Aussie, Sia, plays House of Blues tonight with Girl In A Coma. The openly bisexual singer will perform songs off her soon-to-be-released album We Are Born. Details: House of Blues. 15 Lansdowne St., Boston. 7pm. $22.50 buy tickets here.
- The Willows host a CD release party at Middle East tonight featuring The Wrong Reasons, Dirty Truckers and other local acts. Details: Middle East (Upstairs). 474 Mass. Ave., Cambridge. 8pm. $10. 18+.
