This Friday, a new play opens at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre featuring boy-meets-boy love set against a soundtrack of Matthew Sweet’s hit alt-rock song, “Girlfriend.” From the website: “Romance unfolds in a new musical wound around the tender love songs of Matthew Sweet’s landmark album, Girlfriend. Meeting in homeroom. Cruising through town. Holding hands. Cheering from the stands. That awkward first kiss.
