Song of the Day: Captain Ahab, “Acting Hard”

This post was submitted by Rohan

Today’s song of the day is the most aggressive and polarizing thing I will ever post, but the track is fucking good – trust. Captain Ahab are a duo from LA and they know how to party. Their shows consist of both dudes running around sing-screaming their lyrics while humping members of the audience and having an all around good time.  Sure there are many party bands out there, but none do it with the general fuck all of Captain Ahab.

“Acting Hard” loops a sample from Sly Boogie’s “It’s Nuthin” while a chorus chants:

“We are all starving
In the middle of the desert
Show us your mercy we plead
We all are drowning
In the middle of the ocean
Show us your mercy we plead
We are all dying
Without your blessing
Show us your mercy we plead
We are all calling
To the heavens in sorrow
Show us your mercy we plead”

Around the three minute mark the building synths kick in, giving the track a super industrial/rave vibe before it all gets thrown to hell in true Aphex Twin “Come To Daddy” style. Just reading all of this and looking at the wild cover for Captain Ahab’s new record The End of Irony probably makes you not want to listen to the track, but trust me you do.
