St. Patrick’s Day celebrations begin in Boston this weekend and the calendar is jam-packed with events. In my entirely biased opinion, this is one of the world’s gayest holidays. Really. Aside from Pride Week, when else will you see the so many celebrations involving well-dressed guys with high-pitched voices and an obsession with rainbows? I kid. Anyway, while I’m hiding from the Irish mafia, you might want to try your luck with these events…
Tonight
- TransScriptions is an inclusive open mic event aimed at providing a space for queer creative expression. This month’s feature artist is Raven Kaldera, a FTM intersex activist, astrologer, homesteader and author of books including Hermaphrodeities: The Transgender Spirituality Workbook. How’s that for a resume? Details: Spontaneous Celebrations. 45 Danforth St., Jamaica Plain. $5-10 cover. Doors at 7:15pm.
Friday
- Why not kick off your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations with the Paddy Party at Machine? DJs Darrin Friedman and Gay Jim will transform into their alter egos Lucky DJ and DJ Leprechaun for a night of Irish-inspired debauchery. Details: Machine. 1256 Boylston St., Boston. 10pm-2am. 21+.
Saturday
- Body Heat: Femme Porn Tour 2010 kicks off in Boston tonight and will be crossing the country to support and highlight the contributions of queer femmes in erotica, the “sex-positive” movement, and in shaping a more multifaceted sexual identity through art and other creative performances. Tickets are first come, first served and will be sold at the door. This event usually sells out, so come early! Details: Lily Pad. 1353 Cambridge St. (Inman Square). 7-9:30pm. $10.
- Check out Dyke Night’s Second Saturday event featuring DJ Kelvin at Machine. Boston’s biggest lesbian party features a huge dance floor, 4 bars, and billiards. As always, a portion of the profits will go to various LGBT causes. Details: Machine Nightclub. 1254 Boylston St., Boston. $10. 10pm-2am. 21+.
Sunday
- The South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of the biggest in the country thanks to the city’s huge Irish-American community. This annual event is not to miss! Detail: South Boston (Broadway T stop). 1pm.
- If you’re still standing after the St. Paddy’s parade, you might want to check out Hot Mess Sundays at Underbar. This popular event features three DJs spinning music mashups and plenty of other mayhem to make you forget that Monday is merely hours away. Details: Underbar. 275 Tremont St., Boston. Free before 11pm. 10pm-2am. 21+.
That’s all I’ve got for this weekend, TNGers. Stay safe and don’t forget you can always contact me at: carrie@thenewgay.net.
