Song of the Day: Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, “Round and Round”

This post was submitted by Rohan

Ariel Pink with and without his band Haunted Graffiti has made so much music over the last fifteen years that it is hard to keep track of it. Between underground cassettes or his stint on the AnCo run Paw Tracks, Pink’s penchant for hazy , lo-fi, 60’s television inspired music has not changed, but Ariel Pink now has a real band behind him. The latest in a large wave of acts to sign to 4AD Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti are set to drop their first single, and today’s song of the day “Round and Round.”

It can be said this is probably the most conventional track I’ve heard out of the band, and if this is what we can expect out of the upcoming full-length, then we have a strong contender for album of the year. The lo-fi buzz is still here but the weirdness factor is less. The track is inviting, with the opening “Na, Na Na’s” to Pink’s best Elvis Costello impression on the bridge. The reason to listen is the incredible chorus that hits two minutes in.

Ok, Andrew, I’ll say this once: there will be no Ariel Pink bashing on this website. I’ve put my foot down! I’m down with the pink, hardcore. Now you know.
