Steal this protest! Long Beach is taking advantage of an unwelcome visit from Fred Phelps and his gay-hatin’ co-religionists to spread a message of… well, whatever you want. This event is billed as a “reverse engineering of hate speech” so absurdity and humor is encouraged. Details on the event facebook page.

The Long Beach Comic Expo returns for its second year! A one-day festival for fanboys and girls, where you can meet Lou “The Incredible Hulk” Ferrigno and other celebrities. At the Long Beach Convention Center (300 E Ocean Blvd).

GUTTED: A benefit for the LA Contemporary Exhibitions takes place tonight (6522 Hollywood Blvd). GUTTED features an ensemble of live performance, texts and objects speaking of, from and to the body. With a roster of creative talent spanning thirty years of live performance, GUTTED illustrates an array of ways artists have addressed the human form, spanning issues of domesticity and labor, AIDS, race, social activism, queerness, straightness, bodybuilding, body destruction, fantasy & grotesquerie. Featured performers include Heather Cassils and Hi Fashion $9.99, among other creative powerhouses.

Graffiti Beach stages a popup shop at The Camp in Costa Mesa (2937 Bristol St). There will be free food (from p.o.p Candy, Native Foods and Luscious Organic Foods), crafts for sale, live bands, and art as the eco-conscious concept-mall is transformed for the weekend to a hipster swap-fest. Also, a swimwear fashion show!
