The shortest month of the year comes to an end this weekend and while I wish I could say spring is just around the corner, this is Boston, so I’m only cautiously optimistic that we’ll see warmish weather before April.  Either way, you don’t want to miss out on the films and other events going on in the city this weekend – especially the all-out Nerf battle at MIT on Saturday. I’ll be there (that is, if I can pull myself away from Robot Unicorn Attack for one evening, but that’s another story). Read on…
Tonight:
- Storm Thursdays at Rain Nightclub is the newest LBGT night in Boston. If nothing else, the North Shore club’s event helps add variety to Boston’s ladies party-dominated Thursday nights. Details: Rain Nightclub. 665 Broadway, North Shore. No Cover. 21+.
- If ladies parties are your thing, you probably already know that weekly staples Alternative Mixed Thursdays and Queeraoke offer Boston’s best mix of good music and even better eye candy. Details: Alternative Mixed Thursdays – OM Restaurant and Lounge. 92 Winthrop St., Cambridge. Music by DJ Bugra. 10pm-2am. $5 cover. 21+. // Queeraoke – Midway Café. 3496 Washington St., Jamaica Plain. Music by DJ Summer’s Eve. 10pm-2am. $5 cover. 21+.
- The Indie/Electro Dance Party Throwed is yet another option to get your weekend started early. DJ E-Marce will man the turntables and local band Like Waves will perform. We promise it’ll be worth the Friday hangover. Details: Middle East (Upstairs). 480 Mass. Ave., Cambridge. 8pm-1:30am. $10 cover. 18+.
Friday:
- Rock On! presents Gentlemen Hall (w/Spiritual Rez) at Middle East. Details: Middle East (Downstairs). 472 Mass. Ave., Cambridge. Doors at 8pm. $15. 18+.
- Dyke Night hosts Fourth Fridays at Milky Way tonight with DJ Kono spinning high energy dance and pop music all night.  As always, 25% of the event’s profits go to GLBT causes. Details: Milky Way Lounge. 284 Armory St., Jamaica Plain. $6 cover. 10pm-1am. 21+.
Saturday:
- Have you always wanted to play paintball but feared being maimed by a cretin frat boy or (*gasp*) getting your clothes splattered with paint? The MIT Assassins Guild is hosting Patrol tonight, its own brand of Nerf (read: nerd) warfare that will help you live out a cleaner, safer version of your paintball dreams. Even better, the foam mayhem is free. Details: 50 Vassar St., Cambridge. Free. 8pm.
- If you’re looking to have a laid back evening, you might want to check out the classic 1967 movie Playtime, part of The Brattle Theater’s current Repertory Series, The Films Of Jacques Tati. The French comedy is just one of many Tati films being screened at Brattle right now. Check out the theater’s website to learn more about this film or others in the series. Details: Brattle Theater. 40 Brattle Street, Cambridge. Showings at 12, 2:30 & 5pm. Tickets $7.75 before 5pm showtimes, $9.75 after and available online here.
Sunday:
- If you’re looking for even more film nerdery, you could always attend the Museum of Fine Arts screening of Fritz Lang’s M today. The 1931 movie about a child murderer on the loose in Germany will entertain the vintage film buff or Joe Netflix all the same. Details: Museum of Fine Arts. 465 Huntington Ave., Boston. 6pm. $10 (students and museum members, $8).
