On Sunday, December 27, 2009, at approximately 5:15 am, Seventh District officers responded to the vicinity of 4th and Oakwood Streets, SE to investigate reports of the sound of gunfire.  In the 2900 block of 4th Street, SE, they located a male shooting victim seated inside of a car that had steam billowing from its engine compartment. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (FEMS) personnel responded to the scene, but could find no life signs.

The victim, who has been identified as 29-year-old Anthony J. Perkins of the 1800 block of T Street, S.E, later was officially pronounced dead on the scene by a representative from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia. The body was then transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

I want to assure each of you that the MPD Homicide Branch is investigating this case vigorously and is looking for leads to close this case. We need the public’s help to close this investigation.

If anyone has information about this crime please call 202 727 9099.
