The Fresh Air Fund

This post was submitted by Sara Wilson. Fresh Air

Christmas is the perfect time to donate to a non-profit organization.

Just $10 will send one child on a bus ride to his or her Friendly Town host family. Please consider giving a donation to FAF in the name of a family member, friend, or co-worker.

Are you interested in learning more about The Fresh Air Fund or possibly hosting a child next year? Whether it’s a two-week trip to the country to visit a volunteer host family or a fun-filled and educational stay at one of our camps, our programs make for unforgettable memories- and open a world of new friendships and fresh possibilities.

Naturally concerns within GLBT households arise because many families are not aware of The Fresh Air Funds child placement policies. Host families must have a background check, an in-person interview and a home inspection. Potential families are not asked about their sexual orientation or treated any differently. We do not track same-sex households vs. heterosexual host parents. Likewise, we don’t ask children their sexual orientation and place them with a specific family. Please do not hesitant to contact Sara Wilson, sara@freshair.org with any additional questions of concern.

Also-On March 21st, the Fresh Air Fund-Racers will take to the streets at the NYC Half-Marathon! Thank you to the 2009 Fresh Air Fund-Racers and their supporters for participating in this past summer’s event. You made a huge difference in the lives of thousands of Fresh Air children! Availability is limited for the 2010 marathon. If you would like to run, please go to The Fresh Air Fund for more information.
