Event Details: San Francisco Weekend Preview: The Nasty Left-leaning Cockettes & Dancing Bears Edition - :
This week, Thursday becomes the new Friday with a trio of shows around the city that would make one helluva night of music, merriment and, in my case, total drunken sloppiness. But Ima workin’ boy, so there will be none of that on a weeknight. Instead, I impart this information to the readers of TNG in hopes you will take advantage of these events to party hard. For the rest of us weekend warriors, I submit a few select events to highlight your Friday, Saturday and Sunday night festivities.

The Tingel Tangel Club
Tonight
- Celebrating 40 Years of the Cockettes @ Café du Nord. The SFMOMA and Tingel Tangel Club co-sponsor the return of San Francisco’s psychedelic drag troupe and celebrate the Cockettes’ 40-year anniversary. Hosted by Justin Bond and featuring original Cockettes cast members, Rumi and Scrumbly, as well as DJ Lady Miss Kier. Details: Doors open at 9 PM, tickets $16 in advance or $20 at the door at Café du Nord on 2170 Market Street.
- Cold Cave, Former Ghosts and Veil Veil Vanish @ Bottom of the Hill. Freddy Ruppert’s Former Ghosts– including gay/bisexual/whatever Xiu Xiu frontman, Jamie Stewart– return to San Francisco along with Cold Cave and Veil Veil Vanish. I bought Former Ghost’s latest album, Fleurs. It’s pretty damn good, so check ‘em out. Details: Door open at 8:30 PM, $10 cover at Bottom of the Hill on 1233 17th Street.
- Shake Well and Sick Wolf @ The Eagle. The Eagle Tavern’s weekly Thursday Night Live music showcase features Shake Well and Sick Wolf. The latter includes Jack Spade– aka Damon Dogg– on vox and bass duties. Limp-wristed hipsters beware. This is not your daddy’s rockabilly. Details: Doors usually open around 9 PM, $5-$6 cover, at The Eagle Tavern on 398 12th Street and Harrison.
Friday
- Nasty: A “Fun-Raiser” for the AIDS Emergency Fund @ Powerhouse. Sponsored by self-proclaimed original faghag, Suzan Revah, the event has raised nearly $14,000 since starting in March. It’s at the Powerhouse so… there’s always the backroom for the naughty if you get your fill of all the nice. Details: The Nasty starts at 10 PM, $5 cover at Powerhouse on 1347 Folsom Street.
- The Passionistas, Myles Cooper, California Sunshine, Lux, DJ Alexxxis @ The Stud. First Friday at The Stud Bar is “ClubClub You’re Dead” and features The Passionistas, Myles Cooper, California Sunshine as well as DJ Alexxxis, a Christmas paegent and an over 40 gay male beauty contest. Dude, I’m so there… Details: Doors open at 10 PM. No cover listed, but be prepared to fork over some cash. At The Stud on 399 9th Street and Harrison.
Saturday
- Holcombe Waller at the Left Coast Leaning Festival @ YBCA. Holcombe Waller performs as part of the Left Coast Leaning Festival presented by the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Waller is just one part of a 3-day slate of shows starting on December 3. Read more about Waller in his interview with TNG. Details: The Left Coast Leaning Festival 3-day pass is $35; tickets and a complete line-up of performances are available on the YBCA website.
Sunday
- Honey with Dabecy @ Paradise Lounge. Honey Soundsystems’s weekly Sunday gig gets a visit from Darren M. Cutlip, aka Debecy. According to the Honey Soundsystem bio, Dabecy’s Electronic Music Bears (EMB), is “a Facebook group and podcast that features different DJs from around the world each week and represents the spectrum of electronic music. EMB also maintains a weekly event calendar that highlights SF Bay Area electronic club/music events.” Check out more details on his website. Promises $8 bottomless beer from 9-11 PM. Details: Doors open at 9 PM, $2 cover before 11 PM, $3 after at Paradise Lounge on 1501 Folsom Street & 11th Street.
