Ah, yes, the end of the year. How many “best of” lists have you leafed through as you count down to 2010? So appropriately enough, here’s my final list for 2009– your San Francisco New Year’s Eve preview. It would be near impossible for me to list everything that will happen in the city this Thursday, and frankly there are other lists that will do a better job than me. New Year’s Eve

Qoöl NYE 2010 @ 111 Minna

• Beyond Beyond: A Queer New Year’s Eve Party @ Make-Out Room. Co-sponsored by Stay Gold, the Mission’s hipster dive bar, The Make-out Room, spews forth one helluva hella gay dance party to ring in the new year. Features the following DJs: Pink Lightning & Rapid Fire, Dr. Sleep, Campbell, and Bunny Style. Expect a black and gold balloon and confetti drop as well as a complimentary midnight champagne toast. This is the event that I have my eye on… Details: Doors open at 9 PM, $15 cover, no advance tickets, at the Make-Out Room on 3225 22nd Street.
• Qoöl NYE 2010 @ 111 Minna Street Gallery. Cool goes Qoöl for New Year’s Eve at 111 Minna Street Gallery. Features a hot line-up of DJs including Honey Soundsystem honcho, DJ PeePlay. More balloons, more free champagne at midnight. Details: You can still get $20 tickets online at the Qoöl NYE 2010 event website; at 111 Minna Street Gallery at 111 Minna Street.
• Juanita More! Presents New Year’s Eve – Blow Your Whistle! @ Bambuddha Lounge. Queer nightlife diva, Juanita More, hosts a line-up of local DJs including DJ PeePlay (again), Chilidog extraordinaire, Stanley Frank, and Big Top host, Joshua J. In between sets, look for a New Year’s Eve Hat Craft Table, a glamour shots photographer and a fashion runway walk-off by The Children of “Miss Honey.” Details: Buy your $35 tickets online on Juanita More’s website; at Bambuddha Lounge on 601 Eddy Street.
• X @ Slim’s. Punk legends, X, make San Francisco their New Year’s party destination when they land at Slim’s on New Year’s Eve. Also featuring Dave Gleason & The Golden Cadillacs and The Heavenly States. Details: Tickets are $50 at Slim’s on 333 11th Street.



• New Year’s Blow Out Bash @ The Eagle Tavern. The Eagle Tavern’s Thursday Night Live rings in the New Year with The Freedom Rockers. Free champagne and bikers with floor-length beards. Details: Doors usually open around 9 PM, NO COVER at The Eagle Tavern on 398 12th Street and Harrison.
• New Year’s Eve Free-for-All @ Blackbird. Does the endless list of parties get you all bogged down? Then fuggedabouddit and just mosey on over to Blackbird. Free champagne toast, party hats, noisemakers, and confetti blasters as well as “deliciously crude devices for merrymaking” (i.e. some damn good cocktails, people). This Castro bar is the antidote for Castro bars. A great, hip, queer-friendly alternative to what will surely be crowded clubs all night long. The delicious Grape Drink is highly recommended. Details: Open early, get there early; NO COVER at Blackbird on 2124 Market Street.

And last, but not least…

Bang in the New Year @ Club Eros. Club Eros’ “2nd annual Friends and Family of Eros New Years Eve event.” But you can’t get in unless you “know someone going, have gone, or have been invited.” Promises refreshments, spin-the-bottle, lube wrestling, sauna, a steam room, and lots of towels and condoms. Proclaims that this will be “your chance to play as the men play but with the whole gender spectrum present.” Yowza! And then the fine print: “No intentional blood play this year. But ‘hitachi stations’ will be designated in a number of rooms.” The best disclaimer ever!! Details: Beg, plead, sell your first born son to the devil– do whatever it takes– to get an invite, and then buy your tickets online; at Club Eros on 2051 Market Street.
