Gay artist Gordon Binder is showing New York City images – the Chrysler building, the Flat Iron building, and the ubiquitous yellow cabs on the City’s streets –in Gallery plan b’s year end group show. The New York Times called plan b a “chic gallery showcasing local artists.”
Also included is a figurative painting, Boys Watching Girls Run the High Heel Race (pictured) inspired by Washington’s annual 17th Street competition the Tuesday before Halloween.
The show runs November 27 to December 24, 2009 with an opening reception this Saturday.
About the Artist
A Dupont Circle resident for more than 35 years, Binder studied with Washington artist William Christenberry in the open program at the Corcoran College of Art and Design. In 1996, he received the Corcoran’s Linda Rosenbaum Scholarship for “talent and artistic excellence.” In 2003, Washington Blade editors chose Binder as their pick for artist in the “Best of Gay DC.”
Binder shows locally in Washington, and his work can be found in collections here and in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Aspen, Boston and elsewhere in New England.
By day, Binder works in the environmental field. He has degrees in architecture from the University of Michigan. With partner Michael Rawson he launched Binder&Rawson Artworks, a cottage business customizing greeting cards and invitations with their original artwork.
