Breaking News: DC Mayor Signs Same-Sex Marriage Bill

TNG Intern Roy attended the signing of DC’s same-sex marriage bill today and has these photos to share.

Roy recaps the event thusly: “I could feel the anticipation around, building up to the moment Mayor Fenty put the pen to paper and signed the bill. Being a witness to history was such an amazing experience.”

    I realize that it’s controvertial that the bill was signed in a church, but we have to remember that the religious community is where the fight came from, and showcasing that not all religious people think alike was a good move. Plus, of all the churches in DC that I can think of, All Souls church Unitarian was the best possible venue. They’ve consistently pushed ahead on human rights – not only was one of their ministers killed in the Deep South during the Civil Rights struggles of the 60s, this church was the only one in DC to toll its bells in mourning when John Brown was executed.
