I love December. It’s easily my favorite month of the year! Snow, christmas lights and warm beverages. It has tons of reasons to celebrate: the repeal of Prohibition, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and my birthday! There are tons of fun events this weekend to get you in a great December mood!
Thursday
- Vaudezilla Presents “Here We Come A-Tasseling: Bartop Burlesque Show”. Dick Dijon hosts, as Vaudezilla’s best babes take the stage : Red Hot Annie, Donna Touch, Wham Bam Pam, Maria May I, and Barrett All. And each week, different performers around the city will join for the festivities! Blue Bayou Bar & Grill, 3734 N Southport Av, Free, 10pm.
- Shop for holiday gifts from more than 500 emerging and established North American artists and designers at the ninth annual One of a Kind Show and Sale Chicago showcase, featuring blown glass, jewelry, paintings, sculptures, clothing and furniture from Thursday to Sunday. 222 Merchandise Mart Plaza, $12, Free, 12pm.
- Find love with other smart single women over board games and trivia quizzes at Dating for Lesbian Nerds. Includes a cocktail and geeky prizes like talking Dr. Laura dolls, Nancy Drew notebooks and frog laser pointers. Plus, get the chance to win giveaways for Drury Lane Oakbrook’s “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” Fat Cat, 4840 N. Broadway, $25, 7pm.
- Local Chicago artist Dan Crowley will guide participants through the fun of creating three different holiday ornaments using polymer clay, glitter and other materials in CenterED: A Holiday Ornament Workshop with Dan Crowley. - World of Chocolate is the AIDS Foundation of Chicago’s (AFC) annual holiday fundraising event held in commemoration of World AIDS Day. At this festive event, guests will sample scrumptious chocolate creations from more than 30 of Chicagoland’s finest restaurants, caterers, and chocolatiers.
Other components of the evening include live entertainment, a raffle, an open bar, a light buffet, and shopping at the revamped Holiday Bazaar.

Friday
- First Fridays is an after-work mixer features a new theme each month, plus Wolfgang Puck appetizers, a DJ, digital dating bar and a cash bar. December’s theme is “Cliche” and the bash features a scavenger hunt and pictures with Santa. DJ Kid Color spins.Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. Chicago Ave., $8-$16, 6pm.
- At the Old Town School Holiday Craft Bazaar, browse an array of inexpensive, handmade gifts such as prints, cards, knit items, jewelry and soaps at the fifth annual event. Old Town School of Folk Music, 4544 N. Lincoln Ave, Free, 6:30pm.
- For the seventh annual holiday shopping event, Late Night Andersonville, more than 40 stores and restaurants along Clark Street stay open late and offer merchandise and dining discounts. Includes complimentary refreshments, streetside entertainment and pictures with Santa. Foster Avenue and Clark Street, 5200 N. Clark St., Free, 6pm.
- At Rock for Kids Rock ‘n’ Roll Charity Auction, you can bid on signed music memorabilia from artists and bands such as Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Fall Out Boy, Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin and Kings of Leon. - The Flesh Hungry Dog Show, Christmas With The Crawfords features Chicago’s favorite party band The Joans, rakish and urbane rockers The Handcuffs, and the loveable and lo-fi Blue Ribbon Glee Club. Chicago rock impresario Gary Airedale hosts, DJ spins before and between the bands. Lincoln Park Lagooners Presents Holly Trolley. Meet at North End Bar at 6:30PM for a delicious buffet and then a trolley ride to Lincoln Park Zoo to see the ZOOLights followed by a two-hour tour of Chicago. Beer, soda and snacks are provided on the trolley and games will surely abound. Tix are $30 per person, check the site for full details as space is limited. - What do young women care about? - The Center on Halsted presents Windy City Gay Chorus and Aria: Windy City Women’s Ensemble Holiday Concert. The concert will begin with a romp through the cold and frost, including a Russian sleigh song and the parody “Cold and Fugue Season.” Next will be songs of a spiritual nature. The final section of the show will take viewers to a rollicking holiday party. The concert will include some songs sung by Windy City Gay Chorus, others by Aria, and several performed by both groups.Center on Halsted, 3656 N Halsted, $20, 5pm.
