Awww... Turkey love!

Awww... Turkey love!

Most people who know me well know that I pride myself on my ability to keep my cool in almost every situation, but boy howdy do have a major Achilles’ heel. You see, it’s a pretty well-known secret that there’s nothing on this earth that will make me crumble like a gooey, sweet (or bittersweet) love song. I love writing them, I love listening to them and, of course, I love sharing them. What can I say? I’m a die-hard Romantic. [Sniff!]

So as we all head home or wherever to give thanks, I thought it might be nice to send you all off with a little bit of love. Here are 30 of my personal favorite love songs from the last ten years. This was actually really, really difficult and, obviously, there are a ton of great love songs that didn’t make the list. So if I did something dumb, feel free to lash out in the comments. And, yes, I know the last time I tried to make mix of love songs, I was not in a very healthy place, so I got into a little bit of trouble on account of my pessimism. Fear not. I promise this time will be different. But that’s what they all say, isn’t it? ;)

And, finally, on behalf of all of us here at TNG, I just want to wish everyone out there a safe journey and a very Happy Thanksgiving! This year, like every year, we’re all so thankful to all of you who come and check us out every day. It’s an honor and pleasure to be a part of your lives. We’ll be back bright and early Monday morning with all the news, music and commentary you can shake a drumstick at. Until then, much love!

What exactly is a love song? I guess the definition can vary from person to person, but that’s a pretty good list, Rocky. Off-hand, I’d add:

    Playground Love (Air)

I’m Waking Up to Us (Belle & Sebastian)

The Weight of the World (Editors)

    Wrecking Ball (Interpol)

Go to Work (Oh No Oh My)

Summer Skin (Death Cab for Cutie)

    Pretty Wings (Maxwell)

I’m no Death Cab fan, but any list that doesn’t include I Will Follow You Into the Dark has a huge whole.

i couldn’t agree with you more, but i think i try to block that song out on account of the time one of the many “it’s complicated”s sang it to me while we were driving somewhere and it was the sweetest thing ever. it’s just far too much to handle…

also “don’t be afraid, you’re already dead” by akron/family was a glaring error. my apologies everyone!
