Hello TNGers! I must apologize for the lack of a Houston Weekend Preview last weekend. It’s not that there wasn’t anything going on, other than the massive amount of schoolwork I’ve had to deal with lately. But enough about me! This weekend brings us a very bizarre variety of goings-on that are bound to please at least some of you. Perhaps all of you. I for one will attend each and every one of these events. When you see what’s going on, how could you miss them?
Friday
- Folk singer-songwriter Jewel will be at the Verizon Wireless Theater tonight. Jewel has had one helluva career from several hit albums/singles to some unfortunate guest spots on random TV shows. (Like being a judge on Iron Chef America – yikes!) – But we still love her. How can you not? Quit standing still and buy tickets for this show! Verizon Wireless Theater – 520 Texas – 8pm – $39+
- Also on Friday: Calling all Big Lebowski fans! Fix yourself a white Russian or six and head on over to Discovery Green for human bowling and other Lebowski shenanigans, dude. Event starts at 7:30pm and a special showing of the movie will start at 10:00pm. Discovery Green – LaBranch & McKinney – Free Admission
Saturday
- Do you have what it takes to rock a dance floor? Show off your DJ skills at Guava Lamp on Saturday night during the Houston’s Next Top DJ contest. Hosted by KRBE’s own Special K, you’ll have a chance to win $500 cash and a spot on Guava’s DJ roster. Starts at 10pm and as always, no cover. Guava Lamp – 570 Waugh
Sunday
- I laugh as I write this one. Only because this rapper/artist created one of the most ridiculous yet entertaining songs ever to make it to a 13 year-old’s iPod. Rapper Mickey Avalon, the guy who brought us My Dick, is appearing at Warehouse Live at 8pm. I have to go. I have to see him in person. I encourage you to join me. Also, check out Margaret Cho’s parody of his classic. Her version is called My Puss. Warehouse Live – 813 St. Emanuel – 8pm – $18
