Song of the Day: Best Coast, “When I’m With You”

Yeah, I’ve given Best Coast lots of love around here. I just can’t get enough of the lo-fi girl group/surf rock thing. And with Vivian Girls mining the rougher edges of their sound, it’s nice to see someone maintain the poppy side.
“When I’m With You” is the A-side of Best Coast’s latest 7” on the Black Iris label. The track was cut with a full band, and compared to the demos, there is a noticeable sound difference. The track starts slow, but then kicks into a full on surf rock banger with an incredibly catchy hook.
Like the song’s lyrics, when I listen to Best Coast, I have fun. Hopefully the full-length comes sooner than later.
