This weekend’s activities have a decidedly musical twist to them, so when trying to come up with a name for this edition of the Houston Weekend Preview, Twisted Jukebox seemed appropriate. If you’re like me, your musical tastes are varied. Whenever I’m asked, “What kind of music do you like?”, my reply is usually “Classical to Pussycat Dolls” – Then queue the stares. Why is that so hard to understand though? If you decide to stick around this weekend, instead of trekking down to Galveston Pride, you’ll have plenty of options musically speaking.

Friday

• Dinosaur Jr. will be at Warehouse Live – on tour to promote their latest album, Farm. Long referred to as a slacker-core band, these guys are really just alternative rock that stood the test of time. Dinosaur jokes abound. With Built To Spill, The Missing, and Disco Doom. Saturday

• If you weren’t in the mood to drink yourself silly in Galveston this weekend, drink yourself silly in Houston instead. Join me at Guava Lamp starting at 4pm for happy hour, then stick around later for DJ Special K from 104.1 FM. Guava Lamp – 570 Waugh – No Cover – 21+

Sunday

• The composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim is the most important artist to work in the American musical theater over the past half-century. He has not only collaborated on more than a dozen landmark shows and written countless standard songs but has also been the single most influential force in bringing the Broadway musical into the modern age. See Mr. Sondheim live with Frank Rich for an onstage conversation about his career. Jones Hall – 615 Louisiana – 7:30pm – Tickets $22 and up.
