Event Details: 10/25 - From Jay to Joy: A Poet's Journey Between Genders @ Ina and Jack Kay Community Hall - :

Joy-LadinGay & Lesbian Outreach and Engagement (GLOE) at the Washington DCJCC presents a reading and talk by transgendered poet and Professor Joy Ladin this Sunday.

The event is presented in partnership with the Hyman S. & Freda Bernstein Jewish Literary Festival and is co-sponsored with the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE).

About Joy Ladin

An English professor’s return to work doesn’t generally make headlines, but last fall, Joy Ladin’s did.  Prior to receiving tenure at Stern College for Women of Yeshiva University, Ladin had taught for five years as Jay Ladin, a bearded, kippah-wearing man.  After coming out as transgender, her Dean placed her on “indefinite research leave” and informed her that she was never to set foot on campus again.  Come listen to her read from Transmigration Poems and hear about how she became Yeshiva University’s and the Orthodox Jewish world’s first officially accepted transsexual.
