Grab a cassette boombox and join Bluebrain for a unique musical experience this Thursday.
On Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Dupont Circle, Bluebrain is holding a musical gathering of boomboxes of sorts. They’ve written a 35 minute instrumental piece of music called ‘Cakeblood’ to be performed through multiple boomboxes. The basic premise is that they will show up with a box full of cassette tapes, each containing a different track from the piece. At exactly the same time, once everyone that’s come with a boombox has been armed with a tape, they’ll do a countdown to press play so that each tape will play in relative synchronicity.
After that, everyone will walk together through the streets as the tapes begin to drift out of synch and create something that can’t be predicted but that will, hopefully, be interesting to listen to as well as participate in.
