San Francisco Leather Week
It’s San Francisco Leather Week people, and the official countdown to Folsom Street Fair on Sunday, September 27, begins… All this week, gay bars all around the city will be hosting special themed parties and guests in anticipation of the big leather festival. I’m not sure how much of this will really appeal to the The New Gay reader, but there are a few hidden gems in the schedule that might be worth a looky. Check out the San Francisco Leather Week calendar for a complete listing of events. Unfortunately by the time this post goes up, the 9th Annual Leather Flag-Raising and 17th Annual LeatherWalk will have already come and gone, but here are a few other things that might be interesting:
Monday
Powerhouse Anniversary Party & Underwear Night at 440 Castro. Not really much going on at either of these bars that you haven’t seen or done before, but you also won’t find anything else happening on a Monday night. If you hit both, you’ll have two times the chance of going home with a hot daddy in y-fronts. Details: Both events start at 10 PM; Powerhouse on 1347 Folsom Street and 440 Castro on (you guessed it) 440 Castro Street.
Tuesday
She-Lectro @ Chaser: A Salute to the Ladies of Electronic Music. The program specifically targets CDs, TVs, FTMs, MTFs, TRANS, and Fetishists. What’s not to like about that? Details: Starts at 9 PM at The End Up on 401 6th Street and Harrison.
Wednesday
Ruggers in Skins, Rugby and Leather Collide. I haven’t the faintest clue what this is– if it’s a club party or a discussion group. Knowing this bar, it’s highly doubtful there will be any thoughtful discussion going on, but might provide the eye candy for the night. I actually hate this bar, but… Just wanted to make sure you had some place to go on Wednesday night. Knock yourself out. Details: Starts at 8 PM at Truck on 1900 Folsom Street and 15th.
Thursday
Thursday Night Live. This is actually a weekly recurring event at The Eagle Tavern and an easy, no hassle, fun thing to do on a Thursday night. I’d recommend this even if it weren’t San Francisco Leather Week. The bands are kind of hit or miss, but at just $5 at the door, and even cheaper Miller Highlife on tap, you won’t lose much by checking it out. Supposed to be queer bands this week. The lineup is La Plebe, King City, Jesse Morris and The Man and Cougars. Details: Starts at 9 PM at The Eagle Tavern on 398 12th Street at Harrison.
Later this week, we’ll highlight the Folsom Street parties happening this weekend, including a few that aren’t on the official San Francisco Leather Week docket. Until then people, I’m sure you’ll be dreaming of leather ad nauseum.
