Your Morning Upper: Punk Rock Poetry

This post was submitted by John "Jolly" Bavoso

Mornings suck. So every morning TNG brings you a fun video to help ease the pain.

Here at TNG we have some amazing poetry coverage, but it can be pretty difficult to make Romantic poetry appealing to each new generation. This was exactly the problem faced by the BBC, which was looking to get more young British folks tuned into their Poetry Season. What they came up with is an amazing multimedia mix of “high” and “pop” culture in the form of a viral video which features the lead singer of the up-and-coming Briting punk rock band The King Blues reciting Lord Byron‘s 1817 poem “So We’ll Go No More A-Roving.†Will it get kids more into poetry? Maybe not. But for music-loving former English major dorks like me, it definitely makes for good watching.
