capital_fringe_festival_2009_logoHappy Thursday, All! I trust that we’ve all recovered from our long Independence Day weekend and are ready for something new. One of the big stories in the District this weekend is the kick-off to the 2009 Capital Fringe Festival. The festival, which runs from today through July 26th, “strives to provide outlets and opportunities for artists to self-produce in a nurturing and supportive environment while exposing their work to patrons and the local, national and international media that they would never be able to garner on their own.” Below is a listing of some of the events going on around DC this weekend, including a couple of Fringe shows by queer artists.

Tonight

  • Check out the premier of one of the aforementioned queer artists’ work tonight as Brent Stansell presents My Fabulous Sex Life, an autobiographical solo piece which explores love, lust, and everything in between – all in the shadow of the nation’s phallus. Details: The Shop (at Fort Fringe ), 610 L St., NW, 7:00 p.m., $15.

Friday

  • Support another local queer artist by attending the premiere of Self-Service, Sheldon Scott’s one-man storytelling and comedy show about rural grooming and urban blooming. Details: Warehouse Next Door, 1021 7th Street, NW. 11:30 p.m., $15.
