Event Details: Chicago Weekend Preview: Market Days Edition - :

Market DaysMarket Days is upon us, which signals the beginning of the end of summer for Chicago. (I really would like to get a memo next time summer actually starts for Chicago, because I’m not sure it ever did.) Market Days is a two day long celebration similar to Pride but with gays concentrated on the Halsted Avenue block from Belmont to Addison instead of spread out over the city. No matter what your tastes, its usually tons of fun and great for people watching or eye screwing. But if that doesn’t float your boat there is tons of fun things to do to celebrate the first weekend of August!

Friday, July 31

  • The Milwaukee Ave. Arts Festival showcases live music, fine art galleries and art events, diverse cuisine and local vendors, Logan Square’s 3-day festival includes activities for young and old! Milwaukee Avenue between California (SE) and Ridgeway (NW), Free, Noon.
  • The Printers’ Ball is an annual celebration of print culture, featuring thousands of magazines, books, and broadsides available free of charge; live readings and music; letterpress, offset, and paper-making demonstrations; and much more. 1104 S Wabash, Free, 5pm.

Saturday, Aug 1

  • The 28th annual Northalsted Market Days is the largest two-day street fair in the Midwest and will feature over 400 vendors of food and arts and crafts and performers such as En Vogue, Jody Watley, Cece Peniston, Dot Dot Dot, the Village People and much more. Halsted St. between Addison and Belmont Ave, $7 donation, 11am.
  • The Blowoff Party features rock and electronic music powerhouses Richard Morel and Bob Mould host and DJ BLOWOFF, a musical smack down featuring their meaty signature mix of indie rock, electro and house. Metro, 3730 N Clark, $15, 11pm.
  • Retro on Roscoe features Chicago’s top talent and entertainment on 3 main stages. Artisans, antique vendors, and cool merchants will provide a shopping experience that is second to none. Local restaurants fill the venue with summertime samplings and tasty treats. All this and more liven up this tree-lined street for an enjoyable two-day festival that brings back great memories while providing an excellent entertainment for the entire family.  2000 W. Roscoe, Chicago, $5, Noon.

Sunday, Aug 2

  • GIRLS VS BOYS is a play that plunges you into an all-out war of the sexes. Brother and sister find themselves thrust into a perilous, modern day Lord of the Flies, playing a game with rules they don’t fully understand. But you can’t win this game. You gotta play not to lose. Hal and Martha Hyer-Wallis Theater, 1949 Campus Dr., Evanston, IL 60208, $25, 2pm.
