On the heels of critically hailed runs in Los Angeles and Chicago, Sex, Dreams & Self Control is making its DC premiere at the Goethe Institut July 15th through July 19th. The show is a fusion of stand up comedy, storytelling, and original music and follows a young Midwestern boy being groomed for evangelical ministry through a terrifying journey of sexual discovery. “A sexual and romantic odyssey,” according to Edge Los Angeles. Hollywood gay weekly Frontiers said it was “funny and poignant, beautifully executed.”
Fans of David Sedaris and Augusten Burroughs will surely find appeal in Sex, Dreams, as Thornton has been likened unto a “Sedaris with a guitar.” The show has an original folk rock score that Kevin Thornton penned himself. Thornton has been featured on the MTV network LOGO, and recently bared all in the March issue of Unzipped Magazine.
Sex, Dreams & Self Control has largely appealed to gay audiences across the country, but according to Thornton, “it’s themes are moving and universal.”
