Ask A Straight Guy: Plushgun’s Daniel Ingala
The second in today’s series of hetero-queeries comes from Plushgun‘s Daniel Ingala. Besides the fact that the shimmery, Postal Service-esque pop he makes includes lines like ”Boys kissing boys” and “Pushing back hate,” showing that his acknowledgement of gay fans might go beyond just knowing they are out there. The fact that he made an unnoficial video for a song of his that features the ever-hot Zachary Quinto pouring milk on himself also shows he has no problems appealing to the homos. And for that we will love him… or at least expect his next video to include Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Pannetierre mud wrestling.
But anyway… Ingala was nice enough to answer some of our questions about being straight. You can check out his answers, and the video for the homo-friendly video “Dancing in a Minefield,” below.
DC residents can see Plushgun tonight at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Everyone else should check the band’s tour schedule.
Daniel Ingala: Well I was expected to be gay since I was eight years old, when I told my parents that I wanted to be a ballet dancer. When I was 13 I got really into techno, then of course, I voluntarily wanted to go to an all boys school for its great theater program. It was a shock of dissapointment to most when I realized I did all of this because ballet dancers are hot – and the all-boys theater program imports local “all girls.”
I was probably straight since I would chase Kelly around the school yard at five.
DI: That we all enjoy field artillery, and have bad sex.
DI: The biggest obligation is to not be a bigot, and call out those who are. Including the “hate the sin, love the sinner” mentality. That’s almost more dangerous than upfront homophobia.
DI: Reminding fellow straight people that you watch Bravo because it has good shows, not because you have something to hide. Also a personal challenge is my refusal to marry until it becomes equally protected
for everyone.
DI: Dan Savage, hands down. Or up.
DI: My shameless ability to be myself, and our shameless ability to force other people to have fun being themselves.
DI: My dancing is untrained and uncontrollable, the energy is a natural amphetamine, and if you go to a Plushgun show and can’t have fun, you may have some deep seated issues. TNG
