stonewallThis month I’d like to do something a little bit different to draw attention to a wonderful event series taking place throughout June. I will post the full theatre roundup in the next few days, but today I’d like to focus specifically on DC’s GLBT theatre company, Ganymede Arts. Throughout the Pride month of June, Ganymede will present readings of a landmark play representing each decade since the Stonewall Riots.

The plays are all outstanding and offer a perfect way to experience some of the important writing in queer theatre. The readings will take place at various venues around DC and ticket prices are extremely reasonable.

The series kicks off in a big way with famed queer artist Justin Bond joining the cast of Boys in the Band. Bond is perhaps most well-known now as half of Kiki and Herb and for his role in the indie film Shortbus. It will be a real treat to have him here in DC as part of Ganymede’s cast.

    Directed by Michael Baron
  • Torch Song Trilogy by Harvey Fierstein (1982)
    Monday, June 22nd at Miss Pixie’s Backroom Palace.
    Directed by Matt Ripa
  • Angels in America by Tony Kushner (1991/92)
    Sunday, June 28th, at Universalist National Memorial Church
    featuring the original Signature Theatre cast, directed by John Moletress
  • Some Men by Terrence McNally (2006)
    Monday, June 29th, at the HRC Headquarters
    Directed by Lee Mikeska Gardner
