That’s right, TNG ladies and transfolk. It’s getting lonely here. See that sad, lonely lady with her umbrella? That’s how I’m feeling right now. TNG has recently lost two of our regular female contributors, Allison and Maggie, which brings our non-gay-bio-male total down from 4 to 2–now, it’s just me and Selena.

So this week, I’m pleading with you. Come on, write for TNG.

TNG values having queer experiences from all across the spectrum of queer life–it’s not something we just say, but don’t really mean. We want to make TNG a space for everyone’s ideas and we want to make sure that as many viewpoints as possible get represented. But we don’t want to write about your life for you. That’s why we need you to contribute. It can be a one time thing, a weekly column that lasts forever or a column that just runs for a few months. Anything you want.

Writing for TNG has been a great experience for me. I’ve gotten to meet new people, share my opinions with the interwebs instead of just shouting things at my friends and family. I know the idea of writing for a blog can be intimidating.

When I first met Zack and Michael, I continually promised them an article for a good three months. I never got that article to them. I was intimidated, and with no deadline looming, there was really no pressure to get anything actually written and submitted. Eventually Zack got me involved with TNG by getting me to throw the first Apolitcal Women’s Night. Soon after that, I finally grew comfortable enough to start writing my own column. The first few were terrifying to post, but gradually it grew easier and easier. I know the internet can seem like a scary place, but the pros definitely out way the cons.

Like me, you too can become “famous” on the internets. The day your post or column comes out, you get to check your inbox and the site obsessively looking for comments. But probably the biggest reward is the fact that you get to present your views to an audience of over 22,000 queer readers. You have a chance to create a voice for under-represented parts of the queer community. You have the chance to provide hope to a lonely teenager, sitting in their room trying to find a place in the queer community and the world.

It might seem like a lot to write something every now and then or every week, and sometimes, it can be. But no one here is doing this just for themselves. We write here to create community, spread alternative ideas and to provide another option to those who feel like they don’t belong. Don’t you want to be a part of that?

So come on, ladies and transfolk–pick up your pens (and by pens I mean laptops) and start writing! Just send your thoughts over to submit@thenewgay.net. More of us need to be heard.

First time here? See what we're all about... Get involved... Send us a tip!...

I would like to nominate that girl, Katrina, who wrote a piece a bit ago, which was extremely well written. She seems like a perfect fit, and I’d like to read more of her stuff. Just an idea? Can you contact her?

This was the post she wrote before: http://thenewgay.net/2009/05/what-a-queer-woman-looks-like.html

Now I feel really, really bad about being so scatterbrained and aloof about writing.

I just sent something in very late last night/this morning, I promise!

Aw, that totally made me blush. I’d love to start writing more for TNG, but I got super caught up with end of the year/beginning of summer things. This weekend is NY Pride, so I’m going to be a little busy still, but after that, I’ll be sure to send something in! Thanks for thinking of me!

i’m pretty young compared to most of the writers here, but i do have a lot of life experience and would really like sharing them. i’m only 16 though and don’t know if there is an age limit to being able to write. i love TNG and think it’s really pretty incredible to see people getting involved and having a place to open up to. :)
