Ask A Straight Girl: Elizabeth & The Catapults’ Elizabeth Ziman

Brace yourselves, TNG, for we have not one, not two, but three awesome bands to feature today via “Ask A Straight Person” columns. Due to a log jam of really good bands coming through DC tonight we are going to inundate you with straight goodness. The first featured artist is Brooklyn trio Elizabeth and the Catapult, a gentle, jazzy trio anchored by their singer Elizabeth Ziman’s smoky, sly voice. Fans of Aimee Mann, Obi Best, or the universally calming combination of girls and pianos should check ‘em out tonight at The Red and The Black (for our DC residents) or on their many other tour stops.
Elizabeth herself was nice enough to answer our questions about being straight. You can check out her answers, and a video, below.
TNG: What is your least favorite stereotype about straight people?
EZ: Hmmmmm….that my boyfriend can’t dance?
TNG: What obligations, if any, do you feel that you have to the gay community?
EZ: To not be associated with ignorant homophobe bitches.
TNG: What are the biggest challenges faced by a straight person in today’s culture?
EZ: We still laugh at “Will and Grace.”
TNG: If you had to “go gay” for one member of the same sex, who would it be?
EZ: Definitely Scarlett Johanson
TNG: Given the seemingly endless number of “indie” artist in existence today, how do you think you set yourself apart from the crowd?
EZ: We dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly to our music, but we’re not afraid to laugh at ourselves
TNG: Finally, why should Washington, DC come out and see you play tonight?
EZ: Why the hell not? TNG
