Take in a double-header this Thursday – join First Ladies DJ Collective and TAINT for a DJ Workshop and stay for TAINT’s Lady Liberty Dance Party, both at DC9.
Taint, which just celebrated its five-year anniversary, is a monthly electro-rock indie dance night with an assortment of queer performance and video art thrown in for good measure. The First Ladies DJ Collective seeks to break the “vinyl ceiling” and empower women dj’s. K La Rock has been freakin’ dancefloors since 2002, serving up a sweaty mix of baile funk, Bmore bangers, retro-electro, punk-funk weirdness, and disco-dance skronk. She’s moved crowds in DC, Baltimore, Philly, and NYC and continues leave asses wigglin’ up and down the East Coast. The Pinstriped Rebel plays everything from the obscure to the obvious, mixing disco, funk, hip-hop, and more. She made her DJ debut over a decade ago in Manila and since then has gone on to spin from coast to coast. A founding member of the First Ladies DJ Collective, Junebullet has performed everywhere from Berlin to NYC to her hometown of DC. She left her ipod on the 14th Street bus in 2007 and hasn’t looked back since.
Want to be a DJ? Learn basic to intermediate DJ skills with members of the First Ladies DJ Collective. Experience hands-on mixing opportunities and find yourself spinning on the dance floor before the night is over. Registration is limited to 25 people. Call 202-468-5275 to sign up.
