Just when you thought the upcoming events for Black Pride could not get any more exciting, Lambda Rising is announcing yet another event on Sunday May 24th at 6:30pm, to solidify the PRIDE in this year’s Black Pride week, Pure Love.

Each Author is exceptional in his or her own right, but Lambda Rising is combining the regions top LGBT Black Authors into one panel to offer some insight into these trying times and whether they believe marriage, equality, and Pride will happen in the district, around the region, and in their lifetime.  This event is for anyone interested in how marriage equality effects the black community in the region, as well as various other discussion questions, and features author readings and a signing.

Craig L. Gidney is a local author who resides in Washington, DC and is up for this Year’s Lambda Literary Award for his first novel, Sea, Swallow Me.

G. Winston James is a Jamaican-born poet, short fiction writer, essayist and editor.  He is the author of the poetry collection The Damaged Good: Poems Around Love and was a Lambda Literary Award Finalist. His first short fiction collection, Shaming the Devil, was released in March 2009.

Lisa C. Moore is a local author and the founder and editor of RedBone Press, which publishes work celebrating the culture of black lesbians and gay men and promoting understanding between black gays and lesbians and the black mainstream.  Most recently, RedBone Press published Blood Beats: Vol. 2 , film and music criticism by PEN Award-winner Ernest Hardy.

Pamela Sneed is a New York poet, performer, writer, and actress.  She is the author of Imagine Being More Afraid of Freedom Than Slavery.  She has been featured in the New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, The Source, Time Out, and Vibe.   In 2001, 2002, and in 2005 she headlined the New Work Now Festival at Joe’s Pub/Public Theater and performed before sold out houses.  Sneed is the recipient of the 2006 Baxten Award for Performance.  In her new book, Kong, she offers readers poems that are histories, written, but mainly unwritten, showing how social movements constructed around race, gender, and sexuality impact the individual.  It is about current events, family, ancestors, and pioneers, healing, hope, and love.
