In Case You Missed It: The Week in Review

orangereviewWell, it’s been quite a week hasn’t it? March went out, like the proverbial lamb, we all played the fool on Wednesday, and April’s showers ushered in the second half of the week and a brand new month. The weather got warmer, then became moister, and the cherry blossoms began making an appearance in our fair city. Whether you welcome the warmer air and change of seasons, or dread the rainy weather and onset of allergies, this week marked a lot of changes.

Yet we here at TNG are your rock, an island in a sea of change. If you happened to get caught up in all of the transitioning, we’re here to help you stay up-to-date. Below are some of most discussed and popular posts from the past week.

This week on TNG, in case you missed it…

In Commentary:

  • Corey kicked off the week with a moment of insanity and some Sexual Disorientation.
  • We welcomed new reader Jack to the District and he discussed the education he’s been getting in his new home. Drop by his post and welcome him to the neighborhood!
  • Philip took us on a tour of our Hidden History and reccomended some books by his friends that everyone should check out. Have you updated your reading list?
  • Matt also took us back in time to his Junior year of college in his Dispatches from Left Field column.
  • Maggie unveiled the latest episode of The New Lefthand Lesbians and explained the new format. See anyone you recognize in her work?
  • How far would you go for financial vengeance? This and more is what we found when we opened up Ben’s Notebook.
  • Amelie took us into The Ladies’ Room and on a visit to Maud’s to ask where the close-knit lesbian communities of yesterday have gone.

In Music:

In Politics:

  • Ed used his Reluctant Activist column to ask if we might be our own oppressors. Be sure to look out for part 2 coming soon!
  • We turned our Global Gaze on sub-Saharan Africa to try to understand the gay rights struggle in that region.

In Art:

  • The controversial subject of Walt Whitman‘s sexuality was introduced along with his work by Selena.
  • Zack tipped his hat to Robert Frost, and wrote  an unlikely ode to the marshmallow peep.
  • Chris kicked off the new month on stage with an April Theatre Roundup.
  • TNG reader Mike B. once again shared with us his Thursday Poem. This week’s was about cigarettes and the non-smokers who love them.

Also:

  • We gave you a sneak peek at what’s going on this weekend around DC in our Weekend Preview.
  • The Help Wanted sign was put out – we’re looking for a new Managing Editor. Interested in joining our team? Let us know!
  • Corey explained what happened to your favorite columns - don’t worry, they just moved to the morning!

And that’s the week that was here on TNG. Have a happy and safe weekend and we’ll see you back here bright and early Monday morning!
