But, don’t think that the anti-gay opposition is standing still.
The National Organization for Marriage began running this inflammatory radio ad in DC last week.
Tuesday over 100 anti-gay conservatives, most of whom were not DC residents, held a rally opposing marriage equality that featured former DC mayor Marion Barry.
That’s why the work that we do to build support for marriage equality in DC is so important.
Here are volunteer opportunities for this week.
1. Phonebank for Marriage Equality Wednesday, April 29th
Time: 6pm-9pm
Where: HRC building located at 1640 Rhode Island Ave NW
DC for Marriage is teaming up with HRC and Equality Maine to call voters in Maine to build support for their marriage bill. Maine could very well be the next state to legalize marriage equality. By helping them win, we help ourselves. Every step forward nationally makes our chances for winning marriage in DC that much better.

2. “I Do (Support Marriage Equality) In DC” – Saturday, May 2 @ Eastern Market
Time: 11am – 1:30pm
Where: Meet at the Starbucks across from the Eastern Market Metro Station.
RSVP on Facebook.
Over the last three weeks, we have identified more than 2500 supporters in our pledge events. This is a great way for District residents to show support for marriage equality, and a great way for us to build our movement. Never done anything like this before? Don’t worry. We will prep you with a brief training, a script and everything you will need to be successful. Talking to people face-to-face is one of the best (and most fun) ways to change hearts and minds.

Pushing for same sex marriage rights seems Old Gay to me. Why would New Gays be interested in mimicking a heterosexual institution?
