Washington DC: 4/18 – TNG Day in the Park @ Kalorama Park

Event Details: 4/18 - TNG Day in the Park @ Kalorama Park - :

kaloramaparkTNG reader John submits this post.

Last fall, TNG organized a day in the park with the simple idea that it would be fun to get out of the bars, sit around on blankets, talk, and enjoy the nice weather with other queers.  Since then, it has been really fucking cold.  Now, it’s still pretty cold, but this Saturday is supposed to be sunny and 70 degrees!

So, please join us this Saturday, April 18th, from about 1:00-5:00 at Kalorama Park for the first of what will hopefully become a monthly TNG day in the park.  Please bring blankets, perhaps some picnic goodies to share, frisbees, and any other items that make for a nice day in the park.  Also, bring your dogs!  Heaven knows your dog is cute and you should show her off at every opportunity.  As always, this event is co-ed, trans-inclusive and straight friendly.  Hope to see you there!

First time here? See what we're all about... Get involved... Send us a tip!...

Way to rip off “Saturgays In the Park.” Its not that you shouldn’t organize a park day. However, if you got the idea from them (and you did judging from the photos of your staff in their albums) then maybe you should give credit where it is due. I mean, what you describe here is nearly identical to their stated purpose.

Yeah, cuz meeting new people or mixing with a different crowd is never a good idea. So what if there’s a similar event? There can’t be more than one? Very little is actually ‘original’ anymore these days anyway and it’s not like there’s revenue involved. I for one had never heard of “Saturgays” last year when TNG did this the first time so I was glad to come across their version here, now I can check out Saturgays sometime as well.

Angie – I think several of us proposed the park day idea to TNGers without knowing of the existence of the Saturdgays. Whatever. Way to be Lars Ulrich to our Napster, LOL.

lololol at angie. this is amazing internet drama. i love that you actually get a sense of righteous indignation from being the ‘first’ person to come up with a bunch of people meeting in a park. you are an incredible loser.

I see Angie’s point, but multiple things is a good idea. This event sounds fun, but a hat-tip is always nice. TNG is getting a bit of a reputation of not playing well with others. Perhaps she was sensitive to that fact.

    Be nice, JR.

Angie, thanks for the recognition. I do appreciate that. I’m the organizer of Saturgays in the Park. I’m happy to see any other outdoor activities popping up, regardless of whether or not they were inspired by another event. The weather is going to be gorgeous this Saturday, I wish I could come to the TNG Day in the Park, but I’ll be out hiking with Anywhere Goes, another outdoor-friendly group.

I hope to see TNG Staff and readers at the kick-off to the this season’s Saturgays in the Park at Meridian Hill Park on May 16. I just hope I get as lucky with the weather!

ok, point taken, i apologize, i was harsh and i’m definitely embarrassed by the fact that the other commenters who have been able to maintain an appropriate level of adult discourse. but seriously, gay turf wars are not ok.

Do people bring food to these, or is that a bad idea with dogs about? I just found out (after I started baking) that the number of party guests tonight is going to be significantly lower than expected, so I will have some extra pans of brownies I’d be happy to share.

UGH. Never mind. I didn’t hear the timer, and everything’s burnt. =\

I have to say, Aaron Riggins, that I’m impressed with the poise and class your response exemplifies, particularly amid what seems like a lot of pettiness. As someone who has attended neither Saturgays in the Park nor TNG’s past Day in the Park, I think both sound like great opportunities, and I’ll try to make it to both. Why NOT have a different LGBT bar-alternative gathering to go to EVERY weekend–what’s wrong with that? Had your response been the all-too-common self-important praise claim (which, I have to say, I agree with jr would be a bit undeserved in this case, considering that gathering in parks isn’t the most innovative concept, per se), I might have actually decided against joining you for Saturgays. Instead, I hope it’ll be an opportunity to meet some stand-up gays like you.

Thanks for a great time today. It was fun seeing everyone, and I enjoyed the conversations. Hope everyone has a great week!
