Local: Ticket Giveaway: Kimya Dawson at The Black Cat

This post was written by TNG co-founder Zack.

Kimya Dawson’s piercing gaze.

Pixie voiced “Anti-folk” singer Kimya Dawson pulls off the twin miracles of having a successful career while also touring with her husband as an opener so they can take turns looking after their baby. If you read my interview with her from last year you will want to take her home immediately and make her lentil soup. Though her show on Saturday at the Black Cat does not feature her husband as the opener, it should include catchy-folk ditties with much swearing and political commentary. it should be pretty great.

To win a pair of tickets, simply answer the below question as both a comment and an email to Zack@thenewgay.net. Contest closes at 5 on Friday:

Kimya Dawson got a recent profile boost when her songs with The Moldy Peaches were included in the movie “Juno.” What is your favorite use of a song to enhance a movie?

Most bizarre or creative answer wins. Anyone citing the boombox moment in “Say Anything” (or the headphones moment in “Garden State”) will be immediately disqualified. Also, check out a Kimya Dawson mixtape below the fold.

Not so much of a mainstream movie, but the movie “Prime” with Uma Thurman and Meryl streep; the use of Ray Lamontagne’s Shelter at the end was amazing…

Maybe it’s because of somewhat-old-gay love for musical theater, but the scene in Magnolia where all of the characters sing Aimee Mann’s “Wise Up” always hits me hard.
